Growing note

One of the more forgiving container vegetables to start from seed, and unlike most fruiting vegetables on this list it's a legume that fixes its own nitrogen rather than depending entirely on feeding. Sow directly into the final container, since pea seedlings resent transplanting. Give it something to climb early - chicken wire, a small trellis, or garden twine strung between stakes - or the vines sprawl and tangle instead of producing well.
